Brief History
Malca-Amit, today one of the leading logistics companies for valuable cargo in the world, was established in 1963 as a small office in Tel-Aviv. The office, run by Rachel Amit and her sister, Malca Tykocinski, provided typing services for export papers, when the export of valuables was still done by mail. When the diamond business moved from Tel Aviv and made its home in Ramat-Gan, the office began doing regular airfreight shipments. That was the company´s first step into the actual world of shipping.
It was in 1979 that Rafi Amit, the company´s founder, recognised the opportunity that presented itself, and seized it! The Israeli government prohibited diamond shipments via mail due to a high rate of thefts, and that was an invitation for Rafi Amit to step in. He joined his wife and sister-in-law, and formally defined Malca-Amit as a security focused shipping company, with the opening of the first Malca-Amit office in Hong Kong. The volume of diamond trade in Hong Kong was large, but no other company had established a permanent office there. Rafi Amit stayed in Hong Kong for 6 months, studying the local market closely and overseeing each and every detail, and the rest, as they say, is History.
Offices were opened one after the other, on a need-to-have basis: New York, Belgium, Japan, and India... The company opened offices, or collaborated with existing top-of-the-line local companies, wherever and whenever the need arose, providing the services required and addressing the markets´ needs. This was, and still is, the Malca-Amit way – identifying a need, creating an answer, and establishing deep and sound roots to build layer upon layer.

A Whole New Concept
Malca-Amit was the first company to introduce the concept of secured valuable cargo shipments to the market. The very essence of the industry, which was based on couriers going back and fourth, carrying goods with them, was now changed. Diamond dealers all over the world, who until then were forced to keep large stocks within immediate reach, could now order what they needed and have the goods delivered to them within 24 hours, from almost anywhere in the world. Malca-Amit´s revolution opened new horizons in the diamond trade business.
